Anderson Named Scholar of the Year

Evergreen Lanes YABA bowler, Kyle Anderson, was named as the Everett High School recipient of the 2001 Superintendent's Scholar of the Year, in a ceremony held Thursday evening at the Everett Golf and Country Club.

Anderson had been nominated for this title from among the top 5 percent of his graduating class, and was one of 4 finalists that met with Everett School District foundation members.  Each of Everett School district's 3 high schools had one of their graduating students named to this prestigious title.

In being named as Scholar of the Year, Anderson reflects the highest in academic, social and moral qualities.

We applaud Kyle Anderson for this accomplishment, and wish him continued success in the future.

New Features added to Website

In an attempt to make this web site more enjoyable for the visitor, we are constantly searching for new features to include on our pages.  Recently we have added a chat room, which unlike "public" chat rooms, you must log onto this website in order to access the chat feature.  This will help protect our visitors using the chat room from many of the undesirable elements found in other rooms.  Within the chat room one can chat with all the visitors there, or send a private message to any of the people in the room.

Another new feature to our website is the addition of a message board/forum for your use.  There, you may post messages for others to read, as well as ask questions and receive answers from other bowlers.

Coming soon, we will also be adding video clips of our league bowlers.  The objective of this is to show the action as the bowler or bowlers make certain accomplishments.  However, if they wish,  members will also be able to have special video messages posted as well.

Northwest Tour Names Its Champions

It was a long arduous day for the 32 bowlers at Evergreen Lanes on Sunday, May 13, and tired, blistered fingers and thumbs were plentiful before it was over.  The bowlers had met to determine the top bowler in each of the 4 divisions of the Pepsi Cola Northwest tour.  Having been pared down to just 8 bowlers for each division, the bowlers began the day by bowling one game against each of the other bowlers in their division, with the eighth game being a positioning round.

Once the final 4 bowlers from each division had been selected, the bottom seed bowled against the 3rd seed and the winner went on to bowl against the second seed bowler.  The winner from that match was then to bowl against the top seed player in their division to determine the Champion.  The top 5 bowlers from each division were named to the Pepsi Northwest Youth Bowling Tour All Stars.

The end result:  4 new champions, one in each division.  The winners would earn a $100 scholarship , as well as the title of "Bowler of the Year" for each of the scratch divisions, and "Star of the Year" for the satellite division.

The top honors for the divisions went to:  Evan Olson, "A" division;  Phil Ciesinski, "B" division;  Joseph Frasquillo, "C" division; Ruby Bethel, Satellite division (which used handicaps, where other divisions were scratch play).

Perhaps one of the more exciting matches pitted Joseph Frasquillo against Christiaan Thorne.  At the end of their game, to determine the championship for the "C" division, the score was tied, sending the match into a 9th and 10th frame roll off, where Frasquillo won by a single pin.

OOPS........WE GOOFED!!!!!!

In a recent update, we mentioned that Justin Hicks, Ladawna Gievers and Kyle Anderson were graduating from High School this June.  Unfortunately, we failed to mention that Brian Whetzel and Chris Roderick are also members of the class of 2001.

Congratulations to All our seniors.  It has been a pleasure to have you among the members of the Evergreen Lanes YABA membership.

 ****JUNIOR BOWLER HIGH SCORE SHATTERED***

Justin Hicks, in his last state tournament as a junior league bowler, shattered the high score record for a junior, during the "Big and Little" tournament at State on Saturday, April 7.  His score of 257 was 79 pins above the previous high score for a junior, and is the 3rd highest score ever bowled at Timberline Lanes in Vancouver, WA.

Savage Smoking Hot With 823 Series

Ian Savage, 17, has shattered the junior league 3 game series record at Evergreen Lanes.  Using a white WS ball, he rolled scores of 288, 267, 268 for a total of 823.

The son of avid bowlers Rick and Kathi Savage, Ian found his niche in Evergreen Lanes history using a bowling ball that hasn't been in production for several years.  "I have a friend who had one, and I tried it, and liked it", he said of the ball many call the marshmallow ball.  "I found one on E-bay that was still in the box, unused, and ordered it".

Thoughts from the Webmaster

The Pepsi Cola Northwest Youth Bowling Tour Tournament of Champions is history for this year.  Having been the parent of one of the participants, I was excited to watch the event, and I was impressed with the conduct of our young bowlers.

When you pick up the paper and read about all the terrible things that are happening, and find that all too often there are young people involved, it is difficult to remember that not all of our youth are going astray.  The bowlers at the Tournament of Champions, each and every one of them, displayed the traits that will, in the future, make them true champions in life.  Although I had a personal interest in the outcome of the event, it was impossible not to cheer for each and every one of those young people.....perhaps we, as adults, could take a cue from them.  Even in defeat, there were congratulatory handshakes, and many of those who were eliminated from the tournament stayed to cheer the other bowlers on.

Not a single bowler need feel bad about their performance at the tournament.  Each one is a champion in their own right, and it made me both happy and proud to witness such a fine display of sportsmanship, friendship, and camaraderie as was present at the tournament.  Thirty-two young ladies and gentlemen entered the bowling alley Sunday Morning, and in reality, thirty-two champions left at the end of the day.
